Ally Markotich is one of my soul-sisters. She and I met in the spring of 2013 in a class offered through the Spirituality program at Columbia Theological Seminary. The connection was immediate. Her energy and passion is life-giving for those around her. She is playful and joyful and possesses a depth of spirit that is graced with wisdom and peace. She is a person who sees and looks for the sacred all around her. She is a gifted artist and writer, sharing her soulful journey with others through her fabulous blog, Soul Kindling.
One of the things we hope to do at Inner Ground is nurture an online community where folks can find connection, hospitality, and support on the spiritual journey. This past Advent, through a collaboration with Ally and Jacinta White, we offered an online retreat – Advent Pilgrimage: A Journey Toward Incarnation. Each week, participants were invited to reflect on the theme through works of art, poetry and meditation. Ally gifted us with an original work of art each week and invited us to gaze upon it using the contemplative practice of Visio Divina.
There was a wonderful response to Ally’s art. Some of the participants in the retreat encouraged us to offer prints of her paintings for purchase. Ally has spent many months researching papers, printing, ink, etc. with the goal of establishing an Etsy site where she can sale her artwork. She’s up and running now and is generously offering to donate 25% of the sales from the Advent prints to Inner Ground. Of course there are other prints available as well so I hope you’ll take a few moments to check out her site Creative Soul Kindling. It’s full of beauty, just like my friend, Ally!
